Gender equality means that men and women have equal power and equal opportunities for financial independence, education and personal development and should be a human right. However, for hundreds of decades we have seen all over the world that women have fewer opportunities for economic participation than men, less access to basic and higher education, greater health and safety risks, less political representation and face more forms of discrimination than men.

The universal advantages of gender equality have been well-documented and several international frameworks have affirmed its importance to human rights and sustainable development. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, for example, unanimously adopted by 189 countries in 1995 and still the strongest global consensus for advancing and protecting girls’ and women’s equality and justice, recognizes that persistent inequalities pose “serious consequences for the well-being of all people.” Gender equality is an aspiration that benefits all of society, not just girls and women. Guaranteeing the rights of women and giving them opportunities to reach their full potential contributes to the health and productivity of their families, communities, and countries, creating a ripple effect that benefits everyone.

As a woman-led company with the majority of our team being women at Strategic Recruitment Suriname N.V., women empowerment is part of our daily business. Women empowerment is all about increasing women's self-worth, their decision-making power, their access to opportunities and resources, their power and control over their own life inside and outside the home, and the ability women have to effect change.

That’s why we at Strategic Recruitment Suriname N.V. decided to support this year's International Women’s Day theme ‘Break The Bias’ during the whole month of March. This year’s International Women’s Day theme is about working towards a world free of stereotypes and discrimination that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. It’s a world where difference is valued and celebrated. “We are all responsible for breaking the bias against women: in our communities, in our workplaces, in our schools, colleges and universities. While it may not be noticeable to many of us, gender biases and stereotypes have been deeply ingrained into our working norms, influencing the way we work - from our hiring processes to our daily environment/workplace/interactions. In 2022, we are committed to calling out bias, smashing stereotypes, breaking inequality, and rejecting discrimination. Which is why we are also asking our followers to cross their arms with us to show solidarity.

Over the coming weeks you will also get to hear from the women behind Strategic Recruitment Suriname N.V. and how they attribute to breaking the bias. We hope these stories inspire you to join us in challenging the bias and spark change everywhere.
